Installation tips and techniques
Installing your self
There are a number of different techniques that we have developed from our own experience that will make the installation of Latitude® insulation easier and more efficient for you. Wool is a strong fibre with excellent resilience. This helps it to retain its loft which is why it is a great insulator. However the strenth of the fibre makes it more difficult to cut than some synthetic fibres. For this reason we have described below the best tools and techniques to cut and size Latitude®insulation.
Electric shears
The most efficient way to cut Latitude®wool insulation is with electric hand held sheep shears. These are the same as those that are used in shearing sheds but they are electrically operated using standard single phase 240V power like a standard power tool. Latitude®has these shears available for purchase or rental. Please contact kaye (at) latitudeinsulation.com for details.

Hand shears
For smaller jobs Latitude can be cut using hand held sheep shears. These are available for purchase form Latitude® for $55 + GST. Please contact kaye (at) latitudeinsulation.com for details. These are very high quality shears and every care should be taken when using them as they are extremely sharp.

Cutting
Latitude® can be cut with a sharp knife such as a Stanley knife. Place the insulation on a hard wooden surface on the floor then place a straight edge where you wish to make the cut. Compress the insulation at the point of cutting and cut along the edge.
Tearing
For some applications you can tear Latitude®. Hold the insulation firmly and tear in a downwards motion. You will note that Latitude® tears in one direction only.
Installing sticks approximately 1.5m long to push insulation into hard to reach corners in ceilings are particularly handy.
