Compliance

The moisture content of the framing timber at the time of enclosing Latitude® insulation must be less than 24%.  Construction practice in accordance with NZBC E2/AS1 paragraph 6.0.2 meets this requirement. Latitude® insulation must be fitted into construction cavities with no edge gaps.  It should be cut slightly oversize to ensure a friction fit between joists, studs and noggins.  Latitude® insulation must not be installed squeezed or folded, both of which will reduce its insulating competence. Fill gaps such as around windows and doors with off cuts of Latitude® insulation.  Insulation may be installed directly up to brick or concrete chimneys, but a 150 mm clearance must be left from steel flues, hot ducting vents, and down lights, not over them, to allow unhindered ventilation. Fit Latitude® Insulation beneath electrical wiring and plumbing where possible.

Under floor areas should be filled between the joists with a friction fit.  To ensure Latitude® stays in place it should be at least fixed with a staple through the insulation into the floor joists at, at least 500mm intervals.  Other options for support are foil, straps or mesh.

WARNING UNDERFLOOR INSULATION Jan 2008

Please note the following statement from the Government Energy Safety website.  Whilst this warning primarily refers to underfloor insulation that is aluminum foil lined (Latitude® does not have foil lining) every caution should be taken no matter what form of insulation you are using.

"When stapling under floor thermal insulation it is essential to keep staples well clear of any power cables. Damage to such a power cable may result in a fatal electric shock.  Power isolation when performing the work is encouraged. However, it should be noted that turning off the power will not necessarily eliminate the electric shock hazard as a damaged cable may liven the aluminium foil when power is turned back on. There is also risk of an electrically initiated fire resulting from such a damaged cable. If you have any doubts or concerns about installing this thermal insulation safely then please have the work carried out by professional installers.  For more information refer http://www.energysafety.govt.nz "
